Meghan Markle’s anniversary-themed product sparks criticism from royal commentators
Meghan Markle has reportedly left Buckingham Palace insiders stunned following fresh criticism surrounding her latest business venture.
The Duchess of Sussex recently faced backlash on social media after promoting a candle said to be inspired by memories from her wedding day to Prince Harry.
According to reports, the product description referred to the candle as being “inspired by the ease and joy of a day that holds Meghan's most cherished memories – her wedding day, May 19th.”
A source claimed that some Palace figures were uncomfortable with the idea of a globally watched royal wedding being linked to luxury merchandise.
“There are people who find it deeply uncomfortable that a royal wedding watched by millions around the world is now effectively being repackaged into luxury merchandise,” the insider reportedly told RadarOnline.
The source further claimed that critics see the move as Meghan “shamelessly monetizing one of the most important moments of her royal life.”
However, the insider added that for some within royal circles, the concern goes beyond the candle itself.
“The issue for some Palace figures is not the candle itself – it is the growing perception that every personal milestone, family memory, or royal connection eventually becomes part of the Sussex commercial machine,” the source alleged.
“That fuels accusations of greed, whether fair or not,” they added.
Following their departure from royal duties, Meghan Markle and Harry relocated from the UK to North America during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, spending time in Canada before eventually settling in California.
Their final appearances as working royals included attending the Endeavour Fund Awards and the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.
In the years that followed, the couple confirmed they would not return to royal life permanently, leading to the removal of Harry’s honorary military titles and royal patronages.
The Sussexes later signed major deals with Netflix and Spotify, while also taking part in several high-profile interviews and releasing the docuseries Harry & Meghan.
Harry’s memoir Spare, released in 2023, also generated global headlines with claims about tensions within the royal family and details surrounding the Sandringham summit.
