King Charles Schedules Garden Party on Prince Archie’s Birthday

Royal calendar clash highlights ongoing distance within the family

King Charles is set to begin his 2026 Garden Party season on May 6 at Buckingham Palace, a date that coincides with his grandson Prince Archie’s seventh birthday.

The timing places a major royal engagement on the same day as the Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle’s eldest child marks his special day, drawing attention to the continued separation between the King and his California-based family.

The annual garden parties remain a key royal tradition, honouring individuals from across the UK for their contributions to public service and charitable work. Additional events are scheduled for May 8 and May 12 at Buckingham Palace, followed by a special gathering on May 19 in partnership with The Not Forgotten Association. The season will conclude with a final event at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on June 30.

The overlap with Archie’s birthday also reflects the reported distance between the monarch and his grandson. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan Markle have had limited contact with the Royal Family, including the King.

Harry has previously spoken about his hopes for reconciliation. In an interview with the BBC last year, he shared that he would welcome healing within the family, noting that ongoing disagreements, including those surrounding security arrangements, have contributed to the divide.

Meanwhile, Archie’s birthday is expected to be celebrated privately in California with his parents and younger sister, Princess Lilibet.
