Questions grow as several projects linked to the couple remain stalled
Meghan Markle and Harry’s high-profile partnership with Netflix is reportedly facing growing scrutiny as several planned projects struggle to move forward.
The couple signed a lucrative first-look agreement with the streaming giant in 2020 after stepping away from royal duties. But recent reports suggest that a number of productions from their company, Archewell Productions, have yet to gain momentum.
One of the most talked-about projects is a film adaptation of Meet Me at the Lake. Despite being announced in 2023, the project still has no confirmed director or cast attached. According to reports, Netflix paid about $3 million for the rights to the book, but insiders say the film’s development has been unusually slow.
Another planned project based on The Wedding Date is also said to be uncertain, with no clear timeline for production.
Not everything from the couple’s slate has stalled. Their documentary Cookie Queen recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received positive reviews. However, it has yet to secure a distributor or streaming buyer, raising further questions about the future of some projects tied to the deal.
Industry insiders suggest the lack of new releases could become an issue if it continues. One source told Page Six that without fresh content arriving soon, it may be difficult to see the agreement being extended.
Still, the partnership has produced at least one major success. The docuseries Harry & Meghan became a huge hit for the platform when it was released. Other titles, including the documentary Polo, have not generated the same level of attention.
With several productions still in development and others yet to secure distribution, observers say the next phase of the couple’s creative output could play a key role in determining the long-term future of their Netflix deal.
