Royal insiders fear new memoir about Edward’s former relationship could bring unwanted attention to the monarchy
Prince Edward has reportedly become a new concern for King Charles as the royal family faces renewed scrutiny, with a former partner preparing to publish a memoir about their past relationship.
The Duke of Edinburgh is said to be uneasy after news emerged that his ex-girlfriend, West End star Ruthie Henshall, plans to share details of their romance in an upcoming book.
According to Closer Magazine, royal insiders claim the situation has left Edward and his wife Sophie deeply uncomfortable. A source suggested the couple have always tried to maintain a quiet and drama-free public life.
“Edward and Sophie have built their entire lives around being discreet and avoiding unnecessary publicity,” the insider reportedly said. “The idea of personal details from the past being dragged into the public domain is mortifying for them.”
Even if the Duke is portrayed positively, the mere prospect of private moments becoming public is said to have unsettled him. Sources claim uncertainty about the book’s contents has also caused concern within the wider royal family.
The insider added that the situation is particularly sensitive as the monarchy is already facing intense attention due to ongoing controversy surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
“There is real anxiety inside the Palace about how far the memoir might go and what Edward may have shared years ago,” the source alleged. “Until they know exactly what is in the manuscript, it’s being viewed as another potential problem.”
Henshall has reportedly said the book was inspired by old diaries and letters she rediscovered, including correspondence from Edward during the time they were together.
“I found old diaries I started writing in the 1980s and then discovered all my letters from Prince Edward,” she reportedly explained. “It reminded me how special that period of my life was.”
The planned memoir arrives at a time when the royal household is already navigating increased scrutiny, leaving some observers suggesting the latest development could create fresh challenges for the King and his family.
