Sussexes accuse writer Tom Bower of pushing conspiracy theories and crossing the line
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have criticised a royal author over remarks they believe go beyond fair commentary.
The couple’s spokesperson responded after writer Tom Bower made fresh claims about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in his book Betrayal: Power, Deceit, and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family.
According to the spokesperson, Bower’s remarks have moved far past ordinary criticism.
“Mr Bower’s commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation,” the spokesperson said. “This is someone who has publicly stated that the monarchy depends on obliterating the Sussexes from public life, language that speaks for itself.”
The statement added that the author has built a reputation around creating theories about people he does not personally know.
“He has made a career out of constructing increasingly elaborate narratives about individuals he has never met,” the spokesperson continued. “Those interested in facts will look elsewhere, while those seeking conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”
The Sussexes’ representative also expressed disappointment that The Times chose to highlight the commentary.
“It is disappointing to see the publication give prominence to views that appear driven by a long-standing agenda rather than a genuine understanding of the Invictus Games and the community it supports,” the spokesperson said, according to People.
The statement concluded by stressing that attention should remain on the purpose of the Invictus Games.
“The focus should remain where it belongs, on the courage, recovery and camaraderie of those who have served.”
