Future King’s concerns are believed to be personal rather than political
Prince William is reportedly keeping a close eye on his uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s wellbeing as the ongoing controversy continues to cast a shadow over the family.
While the Prince of Wales is widely seen as a key influence behind King Charles III taking a firmer stance on his younger brother, royal commentators suggest William’s position is more complex than it appears.
According to royal expert Phil Dampier, William has been among those urging decisive action behind the scenes when it comes to Andrew. That reportedly included supporting the removal of titles and pushing for him to step back from Royal Lodge.
But beyond the institutional decisions, there is said to be a more personal layer to William’s thinking.
Dampier told Hello! that on a human level, William would naturally be concerned about his uncle’s mental health. Even if Andrew’s situation is viewed as self-inflicted, the emotional toll of public scrutiny cannot be ignored.
William, who has long championed mental health awareness through initiatives like Heads Together, is believed to be especially sensitive to the strain such intense pressure can create. Observers note that he maintains a relationship with his cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, which may also shape how he views the situation privately.
The timing adds another layer of difficulty. Following Andrew’s recent arrest, William attended the BAFTA Awards alongside Catherine. During the event, he admitted he was “not in a very calm state,” a comment that many interpreted as reflecting the broader strain within the family.
Sources suggest William is hopeful that by the time he eventually takes the throne, the ongoing issues surrounding his uncle will have been settled, allowing the monarchy to move forward without the cloud that has lingered in recent years.
