Princess Beatrice Acted as ‘Rainmaker’ Behind Andrew’s Newsnight Interview

Royal insiders say she stepped in to help her father present his side of the story

Princess Beatrice reportedly played an important role in helping her father, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, agree to his now-infamous BBC Newsnight interview.

The interview aired in 2019, months after Virginia Giuffre accused the former royal of sexual abuse. At the time, Andrew sat down with the BBC in an attempt to address the allegations and explain his version of events.

According to Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, Beatrice was instrumental in making the interview happen. Speaking on the Daily Mail’s Royal Confidential YouTube show, McAlister said the princess was closely involved in discussions leading up to the broadcast.

“It was clear that if we didn’t answer her questions well, this interview was never going to happen,” McAlister explained.

McAlister also revealed that Beatrice unexpectedly attended a face-to-face negotiation just three days before the interview took place.

“She came along unexpectedly to the meeting,” McAlister said, describing the moment that shifted the conversation toward finalising the appearance.

He even referred to Beatrice as the “rainmaker,” suggesting her presence helped seal the agreement.

“The reason I called her that is because she was protecting her father’s interests,” McAlister added.

Sources have long suggested that Beatrice has remained deeply loyal to her father despite the controversy surrounding him. One insider told Radar Online that her instinct has always been to support Andrew, even during periods of intense public criticism.

“Beatrice has always had a fiercely loyal streak, especially when it comes to her father,” the source claimed. “She believes standing by him shows solidarity, and that walking away during difficult moments would only make the situation worse.”

The Newsnight interview later became one of the most talked-about royal media appearances in recent years, drawing widespread scrutiny and ultimately leading to Andrew stepping back from public royal duties.
