The Duchess of York once admitted she felt deeply hurt after being left off the 2011 guest list
Sarah Ferguson has previously spoken candidly about the emotional impact of not being invited to the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Catherine at Westminster Abbey.
The Duchess of York, former wife of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, did not attend the high-profile ceremony, despite her daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, being present on the day. The absence was widely noticed, particularly given Sarah’s past role within the Royal Family.
In a past interview with Oprah Winfrey, Sarah revealed she had not received an invitation and decided instead to travel to Thailand during the celebrations. She described the experience as painful, explaining that she had wanted to help her daughters get ready and attend as a united family.
She also reflected on the personal memories the occasion stirred. Having once been a bride walking down the aisle at Westminster Abbey herself, watching another royal wedding from afar was especially difficult.
Sarah shared that Andrew tried to comfort her on the morning of 29 April, reminding her of their own wedding day and reassuring her that their memories still mattered. Although they divorced after six years of marriage, the pair have maintained a close bond over the years, with Sarah continuing to live at Royal Lodge for a long period after their separation.
In more recent years, attention around Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein has placed both him and Sarah back under public scrutiny. Andrew stepped back from royal duties and lost his military affiliations and patronages. Throughout the renewed media focus, Sarah has largely kept a low profile.
Her earlier comments about missing William and Catherine’s wedding remain one of the clearest glimpses into how deeply personal moments within the Royal Family can carry private emotional weight behind the public pageantry.
