Buckingham Palace Confirms King Charles’s US State Visit Will Go Ahead

Palace says monarch’s important trip will proceed despite security scare involving President Trump

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will continue with their planned state visit to the United States despite a security scare ahead of the trip.

The incident followed reports of gunfire near the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where a suspect was arrested and Donald Trump was said to be unharmed.

The episode briefly cast uncertainty over the monarch’s high-profile visit, which had reportedly been in preparation for several months.

The visit, tied to celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary of independence, is being viewed as an important diplomatic moment for both nations amid disagreements on several policy matters.

Reports also claimed King Charles privately reached out to Donald Trump and Melania Trump after the security scare.

In an official statement, a Palace spokesperson said: “Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of the government, we can confirm the state visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned.”

The statement added: “The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the visit getting underway tomorrow.”
