Actor returns to the spotlight after years of controversy and legal battles
Johnny Depp appears to be stepping back into Hollywood’s spotlight following the intense courtroom battle that once left his career in limbo.
For a time, reports suggested the actor had been largely pushed aside by the industry after abuse allegations involving his former wife, Amber Heard. But recent developments hint at a noticeable shift, with Depp now lining up new film projects and reconnecting with audiences.
One of the biggest signs of that return came at CinemaCon, where Depp introduced his upcoming role in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a Paramount production. The film will see him play the iconic character Scrooge, a role he revealed he had dreamed of portraying since childhood.
As the teaser premiered at the event, fans welcomed the actor with loud cheers, signalling renewed excitement around his work. Known for bringing unusual and memorable characters to life on screen, Depp once again steps into a distinctive role that fits his signature style.
The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley and Rupert Grint.
Even before Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol reaches theatres, Depp has already secured another major project. He is set to appear in Day Drinker, an action thriller that further highlights the apparent turnaround in his professional life.
Depp was once one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and the face of several blockbuster franchises. However, his career suffered a significant blow amid allegations of sexual assault and reports of difficult behaviour on film sets.
The legal dispute with Amber Heard became one of the most widely discussed courtroom dramas in recent years, drawing global attention and prompting several brands and studios to distance themselves from the actor.
Following his legal victory, though, Depp seems to be rebuilding his standing in the industry. With new roles on the horizon and strong fan support, the actor is gradually working his way back into major Hollywood productions.
Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on November 13, 2026.
