Kate Middleton Opens Up About Being Teased for Her ‘Soft Voice’

Princess of Wales shares personal challenge during public engagements

Catherine has admitted that she is often encouraged to speak louder during royal appearances, revealing a small but relatable struggle behind her composed public image.

While speaking to guests at Buckingham Palace during an event marking what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday, Catherine shared that formal engagements can feel challenging at times. She explained that her naturally quiet tone often draws light-hearted comments from those around her.

“I find these environments really hard,” she said. “I’ve also got a very soft voice, so I always get told, ‘Speak up a bit louder!’”

The Princess of Wales has previously reflected on similar experiences. In the 2016 ITV documentary Our Queen at Ninety, she spoke about the delicate balance required during walkabouts, noting that she tends to spend longer than expected chatting with well-wishers. She admitted she is still learning how to manage those moments more effectively.

Meanwhile, body language expert Judi James observed that Catherine’s presence at the Palace event highlighted her confidence and warmth as a host. Her lilac dress, paired with layered pearls, was seen as a subtle tribute to the late Queen’s iconic style, adding a thoughtful touch to the occasion.
