King Charles’ upcoming US visit may bring renewed focus on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

Report suggests the monarch could face questions about his brother during diplomatic trip

King Charles is preparing for a state visit to the United States next month, but reports suggest the trip could also reopen discussion about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Tuesday that the monarch and his wife, Queen Camilla, will travel to the US in late April. The visit is part of events marking the 250th anniversary of American independence from British rule. After their time in the United States, the royal couple are also expected to visit Bermuda.

The British government hopes the high-profile trip will help improve relations with US President Donald Trump following tensions linked to the Iran war.

Charles previously hosted Trump for a second state visit to Britain last September. During that visit, the American leader attended a carriage procession and state banquet at Windsor Castle, where he praised the long-standing relationship between the two countries and described it as “irreplaceable and unbreakable”.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is believed to be hoping the king’s visit can again help steady relations during a challenging diplomatic moment. Meanwhile, Prince William is expected to travel to the US later in the summer during the football World Cup.

However, the visit could place Charles in a delicate position. Polls suggest Trump remains unpopular among many Britons, meaning the monarch may need to strike a careful tone during official engagements.

Differences over climate policy could also draw attention. Trump has previously questioned climate change science, while the king has spent decades campaigning on environmental issues.

According to Reuters, the trip may also lead to renewed questions about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The king’s younger brother has faced scrutiny over his past association with the late US offender Jeffrey Epstein, although he has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Last year, Charles removed Andrew’s remaining royal roles and asked him to leave Royal Lodge in Windsor following continued controversy surrounding the matter.
