Monarch says Britain stands united with America during historic Congress address
Following in the footsteps of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III addressed Congress during his official visit to the United States.
During the second day of his high-profile state visit on Tuesday, April 28, the King appeared alongside Queen Camilla, where he spoke about the recent shooting incident connected to the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
On Saturday, April 25, Donald Trump attended the dinner as sitting president with Melania Trump, JD Vance and other senior officials.
The event was disrupted when gunshots were reported near the main security screening area. A man identified as Cole Tomas Allen was arrested and charged after allegedly attempting to target Trump.
In his speech, King Charles said the gathering came in the aftermath of an attack that sought to harm America’s leadership and spread fear and division.
He added that such violence would never succeed and said both nations remain committed to defending democracy, protecting their people and honouring those who risk their lives in public service.
The four-day state visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla comes as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding celebrations.
