Insider claims the Sussexes should be “counting their blessings” after their project received approval.
Meghan Markle and Harry are once again at the centre of debate over their post-royal career, with critics questioning how the couple are handling their ongoing partnership with Netflix.
Since stepping away from royal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have experienced a dramatic shift in their public and professional lives. Once described as a “golden couple” with a reported $100 million streaming deal, their arrangements have since changed, with newer agreements believed to be worth far less than the original contract.
According to a source quoted by Closer magazine, some observers believe the couple should be more appreciative that their latest project moved forward.
“You’d think they’d just be thanking their lucky stars that their project has gotten the green light after everything that’s happened,” the insider claimed. “But instead of simply being grateful and getting on with things, they’re acting more entitled than ever.”
The remarks refer to the fact that the couple have managed to keep their Netflix partnership, even as their Spotify deal ended. Some critics argue that Netflix may simply be aiming to complete its existing agreement rather than expand the collaboration further.
“The reality is Netflix just wants to get their money’s worth and wrap things up,” the source added.
Commentators have also suggested the couple are attempting to frame the situation as proof that the streaming giant still needs them, though opinions remain divided.
Life After Their Royal Exit
The couple’s dramatic career shift began with their departure from royal duties in 2020, widely dubbed “Megxit.” Soon after leaving the UK, they relocated first to Canada and later settled in California, spending part of the transition period at a home owned by Tyler Perry during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their final official royal engagements included appearances at the Endeavour Fund Awards and the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.
A year later, a 12-month review confirmed that the Duke of Sussex would not return to royal duties. The decision also meant losing honorary military titles and royal patronages.
Following the move, the couple launched several media projects, including high-profile interviews and their Netflix documentary series. At the same time, they signed major deals with streaming platforms, although the Spotify partnership later ended.
In 2023, Harry released his memoir Spare, which detailed several personal moments from his time within the royal family.
Amid these developments, the couple’s family life also grew. Their daughter, Lilibet, was born in 2021. Meghan later wrote publicly about experiencing a miscarriage in an essay for The New York Times.
Since their royal exit, Meghan has returned to the UK only a handful of times, including for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral. Harry has also attended major royal events, such as the King’s coronation.
More recently, reports suggest the Sussexes are focusing on rebuilding their public image in the United States, though tensions with parts of the royal family are still widely discussed.
