King Charles is set to travel to the United States on Monday following an invitation from President Donald Trump.
Piers Morgan has weighed in with sharp comments after reports claimed an internal Pentagon email discussed reviewing America’s position on the Falkland Islands in response to Britain’s stance during the Iran conflict.
According to Reuters, the email reportedly explored possible measures against NATO allies seen as not fully supporting US military operations, including reconsidering diplomatic backing for European overseas territories such as the Falkland Islands.
Reacting to the reports, Morgan posted on X: “If President Trump wants to take the Falkland Islands away from Britain, then we must reclaim the United States.”
He added: “Perfect way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence.”
Morgan then joked that King Charles should make the announcement during his upcoming address to Congress next week.
Earlier, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain’s position on the Falkland Islands remains unchanged.
“We could not be clearer about the UK’s position on the Falkland Islands. It is long standing, it is unchanged,” the spokesperson told reporters.
King Charles will begin a four-day visit to the United States on Monday alongside Queen Camilla.
Both Buckingham Palace and the British government said the trip will celebrate the historic ties between the two nations as the US marks 250 years of independence.
It will be the monarch’s first state visit to the United States since becoming King.
