Expert says Sussexes still have room to reshape their post-royal image
Harry and Meghan Markle are facing renewed scrutiny after reports suggested Netflix has stepped back from Meghan’s lifestyle venture, As Ever. However, a public relations expert believes the situation is unlikely to cause lasting harm to the couple’s brand.
According to PR consultant Olivia Bell, developments like this often attract heavy media coverage, particularly when a high-profile partner such as Netflix is involved. She explained that changes in partnerships within the entertainment and streaming industry are not unusual.
Bell noted that while the Netflix decision is bound to generate headlines, it does not necessarily point to long-term damage for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Partnerships in this space are often fluid, especially when expectations on both sides are high,” she said. “The bigger question now is what comes next.”
She also suggested that Harry and Meghan are still defining what their public identity looks like after stepping away from royal duties. When certain projects fail to meet expectations, it can create the impression that they are starting over.
In reality, Bell said, there are often multiple opportunities developing behind the scenes. Because Netflix is such a visible partner, any shift in that relationship naturally attracts greater attention.
From a public relations perspective, she described the situation as manageable. Meghan has been gradually moving into the lifestyle and wellness sector, and the focus now is likely to be on proving that As Ever can succeed independently.
Bell added that Meghan’s ability to draw media attention remains a double-edged sword. While it invites criticism, it also keeps opportunities within reach.
“Moments like this can appear like setbacks in public,” she explained, “but they are often just part of a wider business journey. It’s very likely other possibilities are already being explored, even if they’re not visible yet.”
