The Duke of Sussex compared the reaction to Andrew’s allegations with the criticism he and Meghan Markle faced
Prince Harry did not hold back when addressing the controversy surrounding his uncle Andrew in his 2023 memoir. Writing candidly about the royal family and its struggles, the Duke of Sussex described the allegations linked to his uncle as a “shameful scandal” and questioned how the situation was handled within the monarchy.
In the book, Harry reflected on the accusations of sexual assault made by a young woman against his uncle. He noted that despite the seriousness of the claims, there had been no immediate suggestion that Andrew should lose his publicly funded security.
Harry wrote that his uncle was “embroiled in a shameful scandal, accused of the sexual assault of a young woman,” adding that he found it striking that Andrew’s security arrangements were never seriously challenged at the time.
The Duke of Sussex then drew a clear contrast between the criticism directed at him and Meghan Markle and the response to Andrew’s situation. According to Harry, while people may have had complaints about him and his wife, the accusations surrounding Andrew were of a far more serious nature.
He concluded bluntly that whatever grievances critics had about him and Meghan Markle, “sex crimes weren’t on the list.”
