Republic announces Buckingham Palace protest calling for accountability over Andrew scandal
An anti-monarchy campaign group has claimed that a royal succession could take place within the next few years, potentially placing William on the throne earlier than expected.
The organisation Republic has announced plans to stage a protest outside Buckingham Palace on May 9, 2026, urging supporters across Britain to join the demonstration.
According to the group, the rally is aimed at demanding accountability from Prince Andrew over his past links to Jeffrey Epstein.
In a statement announcing the event, Republic said Andrew should no longer avoid scrutiny.
“Andrew can't continue to hide from accountability. That's why we're marching to Buckingham Palace on May 9. Join the protest as Republic leads a march on Buckingham Palace,” the group said.
The campaign organisation also argued that public support for the monarchy is declining, claiming opinion polls show a growing number of people favour replacing it with a republic.
“Republic Day is your chance to get involved, show your support and help drive support for change even higher,” the group added.
During the announcement, Republic also suggested that another royal transition could occur within the next couple of years, with Prince William potentially succeeding King Charles III sooner than expected.
The group used the statement to strongly criticise both the monarchy and the handling of the Andrew controversy, claiming there are still unanswered questions surrounding the scandal.
Republic is encouraging supporters to gather for the demonstration, march along The Mall, and protest outside Buckingham Palace in what it says will be a push for constitutional change in the United Kingdom.
