Former royal correspondent praises late monarch’s quiet nature and remarkable self-control
Queen Elizabeth II is being remembered for her private nature and ability to keep her thoughts hidden throughout her years on the throne.
The late monarch, who passed away in 2022, was described as a shy woman who never sought attention despite spending decades in the public eye.
Speaking to the Mirror, royal expert Jennie Bond said she believes the Queen may have preferred a far simpler life away from royal duties.
“I remember the late Queen as a fairly shy woman who probably would have loved to have been something like a farmer’s wife,” Bond said.
She also praised the monarch’s discipline, adding that one of her greatest strengths was never allowing others to truly know what she was thinking or feeling.
Bond said she especially treasured rare moments when the Queen appeared relaxed and off guard, recalling one occasion when she saw her applying lipstick without a mirror before entering a reception room at Buckingham Palace.
Reflecting on later royal celebrations, Bond said enormous crowds gathered outside Buckingham Palace for the Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilees.
She described the scenes as unforgettable and said the Queen always found such public support deeply humbling.
