Catherine and William’s Baker Recalls ‘Goosebumps’ Moment From Royal Wedding Day

Wedding cake maker shares special details behind the couple’s elegant 2011 celebration

Catherine and William’s wedding baker has opened up about the unforgettable moment she was chosen to create the couple’s royal wedding cake.

Fiona Cairns revealed she still gets “goosebumps” when thinking about the phone call that changed everything after meeting the couple ahead of their 2011 wedding.

Speaking to Country Life, the baker said the pair personally contacted her business and invited her to Clarence House for an initial meeting.

She shared that they sat down for tea and discussed plans before she later received the call confirming she had been selected.

Cairns said it was a moment she would “never, ever forget.”

According to the baker, the Prince and Princess of Wales requested a traditional fruitcake, following a long-standing royal wedding custom dating back to the era of Queen Victoria.

She also disclosed the impressive scale of the creation, saying the cake prepared for the wedding breakfast served around 600 guests and weighed approximately 70 kilograms.

The lavish cake became one of many memorable features of Catherine and William’s globally watched wedding celebration in 2011.
