The late monarch reportedly shared a touching moment with Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter during the Platinum Jubilee.
Queen Elizabeth was said to be delighted when she met her great-granddaughter, Princess Lilibet, for the first and only time in 2022.
The meeting took place during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the United Kingdom, which marked 70 years of the Queen’s reign. Harry and Meghan Markle travelled from the United States with their children to take part in the historic royal event.
According to royal author Robert Hardman, the monarch was especially happy to finally meet the young royal, who was named after her childhood nickname.
In his book Elizabeth II, Hardman writes that friends of the Queen recalled how “thrilled” she was as the one-year-old happily crawled around near her feet during their visit.
Harry also reflected on that emotional moment after the monarch’s passing. In his memoir Spare, he remembered the final time the children spent with their great-grandmother.
The Duke of Sussex wrote that he kept picturing the children with their “Granny” during that visit. He recalled Archie greeting her with polite bows, while little Lilibet cuddled against the monarch’s legs.
According to Harry, the Queen affectionately described them as “sweetest children,” sounding pleasantly surprised by how calm they were. He added that she had expected them to be a bit more energetic, joking that she thought they might seem “more American.”
The brief meeting later became one of the last personal family moments the Queen shared with Harry’s young children before her death later that year.
