Meghan Markle’s father says a new relationship has brought him peace after difficult years
Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, has revealed he has found love again while living in the Philippines.
The 81-year-old recently spoke about his relationship with Rio Canedo, a 46-year-old Filipina nurse whom he met during his recovery from major surgery. Thomas now resides in the Philippines, where doctors carried out a below-the-knee leg amputation after a serious infection linked to poor blood circulation.
According to Thomas, Rio came into his life during that difficult period and has since become a strong source of support. He said their relationship has helped him rediscover happiness after several challenging years.
“I never expected to find joy and happiness again at my age,” Thomas said, adding that he had spent a long time feeling “neglected and sad.”
He credited Rio, who is 35 years younger than him, with bringing comfort and stability into his life. “After so many tough times, I feel truly blessed to have found someone very special who takes such good care of me,” he said, as reported by Radar Online.
The update on Thomas’s personal life comes against the backdrop of his long-running estrangement from Meghan Markle. Following his recent surgery, he publicly expressed hope that the two could eventually reconcile.
Thomas said he reached out to his daughter after the operation, hoping the situation might help rebuild their relationship. However, he claimed that Meghan only sent a letter and did not visit him during his recovery.
