Anti-Monarchy Protest Planned for King Charles III’s Official Birthday

An anti-monarchy campaign group has announced plans to stage a protest during celebrations marking King Charles III’s official birthday on June 13.

The demonstration is being organized by Republic and is set to coincide with the annual Trooping the Colour parade in London.

The military spectacle, which celebrates the monarch’s official birthday, is expected to feature more than 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians from the Household Division. Members of the Royal Family are also expected to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the traditional RAF flypast and greet crowds gathered below.

In a statement published on its website, Republic criticized the event, arguing that the balcony appearance promotes inherited privilege rather than democratic values. The group also claimed that efforts were made last year to reduce the visibility of its demonstration during the celebrations.

Republic said it intends to ensure its presence is seen during this year's proceedings, stressing that Trooping the Colour is a public event and that peaceful protest is a democratic right.

According to the group, protesters are expected to assemble along The Mall from 8:30 a.m. ahead of the ceremony.

The planned protest is expected to take place alongside the official celebrations, which remain one of the most prominent events in the royal calendar.
