Dog steals attention at King Charles’ Buckingham Palace garden party

More than 8,000 guests, including many first responders, attended King Charles and Queen Camilla’s first garden party of the summer season at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.

The royal gathering was also attended by the Princess Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, as thousands enjoyed the traditional afternoon event in the palace gardens.

However, one unexpected guest ended up becoming the highlight of the day. Vegas, a hearing dog, delighted attendees after jumping up at three senior royals, including the King, Queen Camilla and the Princess Royal, before happily digging into the grass.

Veteran royal journalist Rebecca English shared a video from the event and joked that Vegas was the true “star of the show,” with many guests amused by the playful moment.

According to the royal family’s official website, more than 30,000 people are invited to royal garden parties each year at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The events give members of the royal family a chance to meet people from different backgrounds who have made positive contributions to their communities.

Traditionally, three garden parties are held at Buckingham Palace during the summer, while another takes place in Scotland at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The gatherings originally replaced debutante presentation parties and are now seen as a way to recognise public service and community work.
