Expert says Princess of Wales plays a key role in helping Prince William navigate royal challenges
The Princess of Wales, Catherine, has been described with a new title by a royal expert following reports that King Charles is exploring ways to reconnect with his California-based grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
Speaking to The Mirror, royal historian and expert Andrew Lownie claimed that Prince William is more focused on protecting the monarchy’s reputation than many other members of the Royal Family. He suggested that William is determined to ensure stability before eventually taking on the role of king.
Lownie also highlighted Catherine’s influence, describing her as a strong and important figure behind the scenes.
“William also has Kate, who is a really tough one, and behind that smiling exterior she's like the steely Queen Mum,” he said.
The expert added that Catherine has a deep understanding of how the monarchy operates and often provides valuable perspective to her husband.
“Kate gets how it all works, and I'm always struck that it is often the outsiders who better understand the institution rather than those who are born to it,” Lownie explained.
He further claimed that Catherine helps William assess potential reputational risks and that the couple are particularly skilled at understanding public sentiment.
“Kate helps William see the reputational damage and he is much tougher than his father or any other royal relatives. The couple is much better at reading the room,” he said.
The comments come amid reports that King Charles is considering a strategy aimed at rebuilding family ties with Harry, Meghan Markle and their children.
According to OK! Magazine, the monarch believes that improved relations between Catherine and Meghan Markle could help pave the way for a reunion with Archie and Lilibet in the future.
