Royal expert claims former couple maintained a long-standing partnership despite ending their marriage
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson remained closely connected for decades after their divorce, with a royal expert now shedding light on the reasons behind their unusual relationship.
The Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson, who officially divorced in 1996 after separating in 1992, were once described as the "happiest divorced couple" due to their enduring bond and continued cohabitation.
Royal expert Andrew Lownie claimed that the pair's relationship evolved into a professional partnership rather than a romantic one.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Lownie said, "The reason that they've stayed together is a professional business relationship."
He went on to compare the former couple to "Bonnie and Clyde," suggesting they remained united through years of controversy and public scrutiny.
According to the expert, Sarah benefited from her continued connection to Andrew, while the Duke appreciated her loyalty during difficult periods.
"He was her calling card for money, and I think maybe he had a sentimental loyalty to her," Lownie said. "She was one of the last people to remain loyal to him and supportive of him, and I think he felt grateful for that."
Lownie also suggested that Andrew enjoyed the image of family life while maintaining a degree of independence.
"He's sort of a playboy, but he also likes the comfort of being a married man with a family," the expert claimed.
He added that the arrangement allowed Andrew to enjoy "the best of both worlds," creating the impression of a happy family while living largely independent lives.
The royal commentator further noted that the former couple shared a large residence, making it easier to maintain separate lifestyles under the same roof.
Lownie alleged that by the time of their divorce, much of the romance had faded from the relationship and that they functioned more as business partners than a traditional couple.
