During her time in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia, Catherine met educators from Brazil and Mexico to learn more about the globally respected Reggio Emilia Approach. The educational philosophy encourages creativity, strong relationships, and hands-on learning experiences for young children.
According to Kensington Palace, the Princess of Wales discussed the importance of helping children develop emotionally while staying connected to themselves and the people around them.
In a statement, the palace said Catherine shared her thoughts on “the importance of creativity, emotional development, and helping children remain connected to themselves and those around them,” adding that these ideas are important in supporting “the whole child”.
The visit marked Catherine’s first official overseas engagement since undergoing cancer treatment. Hundreds of well-wishers gathered in Reggio Emilia’s historic main square to welcome the princess as she arrived in the city, which is famous for its pioneering approach to early childhood education.
Crowds waving Union Jack flags lined the streets, while others held banners reading “Ciao Kate” as they greeted the royal visitor.
The Princess of Wales is undertaking a two-day visit to Italy as part of her long-standing work highlighting the importance of early years development, an issue that remains at the centre of her public role.
