British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced major new appointments to his team following King Charles III recent trip to the United States, where the monarch addressed Congress.
Starmer shared the updates on X, formerly known as Twitter, introducing senior figures who will take on important advisory roles in his government.
He confirmed that Harriet Harman has been appointed Adviser on Women and Girls.
In his post, Starmer praised Harman as a strong supporter of women and girls, saying he believes she will help create greater opportunities for women in public life.
The Prime Minister also stressed his commitment to tackling structural misogyny, calling it a major barrier faced by many women and girls across the country. He added that he looks forward to working closely with Harman to push forward action on the issue.
In a separate announcement, Starmer revealed that former Prime Minister Gordon Brown will serve as Special Envoy on Global Finance and Cooperation.
Starmer described Brown, Britain’s longest-serving Chancellor, as well suited to strengthen international partnerships aimed at boosting the UK’s security, resilience and economic position.
The appointments come after Labour lost control in Wales on Friday for the first time since the devolved Welsh assembly was established in 1999.
The announcements also follow King Charles’ recent high-profile visit to the United States. Reports claimed the monarch used royal diplomacy and “soft power” during the trip in an effort to strengthen US-UK relations amid political tensions involving US President Donald Trump and Starmer.
