Reports claiming that King Charles could eventually step down and hand the throne to Prince William have triggered strong reactions from royal watchers online.
According to insiders quoted by New Idea, there is currently no official date for the monarch to abdicate. However, sources claimed palace officials are quietly preparing for every possible scenario as concerns around the King’s health continue.
The report suggested that private rehearsals for a future transition are already being discussed behind closed doors, with an alleged “abdication plan” said to be in place if needed.
A similar claim was later shared by Sky News on X, formerly known as Twitter. The outlet reported that palace insiders claimed plans had been prepared for the moment King Charles may decide to pass the crown to Prince William.
The speculation quickly divided royal fans, many of whom insisted the King would never willingly step aside.
One commenter argued that King Charles would continue serving as monarch for the rest of his life, just as Queen Elizabeth II did before him. The fan added that Prince William would only become King when the natural line of succession takes its course.
Another royal watcher dismissed the rumours entirely, pointing out that abdication would also require parliamentary approval and claiming it was unlikely such a move would happen.
A third fan insisted there is already a plan for the crown to pass to William, but said it would only happen upon the King’s death, not through abdication. The commenter also praised Charles for continuing to carry out his royal duties with energy and determination.
