King Charles honours fallen heroes on final day of US visit

Monarch and Queen Camilla pay tribute at Arlington before wrapping four-day trip

On the final leg of their United States tour, King Charles III and Queen Camilla paused to honour fallen service members in a solemn ceremony.

The royal couple visited Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, where they laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a site dedicated to unidentified military personnel who lost their lives in service.

Footage shared by Buckingham Palace on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account captured the moment, showing the King and Queen standing in quiet reflection as they paid their respects.

During their visit, Charles and Camilla also met service personnel from the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand at the Canadian Cross, recognising the shared military history and sacrifice among Commonwealth nations.

In its caption, the Palace noted that Arlington spans more than 600 acres and is the resting place of over 400,000 veterans and their families, along with two former US presidents. The cemetery also includes graves of British Commonwealth soldiers.

The tribute marked the closing moment of the King and Queen’s four-day visit to the United States, which included engagements in New York City and Washington, D.C.
