Duchess attends godson’s special day while Thomas Markle relocates following serious medical treatment
Meghan Markle has quietly travelled to Chicago on her own, without Prince Harry or her children, as fresh reports emerge about her father’s return to the United States after a major health ordeal.
The trip coincided with news that Thomas Markle recently left the Philippines and is now back in the US, just days before his grandson Prince Archie turns seven on May 6.
Thomas had been living on the island of Cebu, where he relocated last year in search of a quieter life far from his daughter and her family. His return follows a serious medical emergency that nearly cost him his life. Around five months ago, a blood clot in his left thigh cut off circulation to his foot, leading to the amputation of his leg. After undergoing treatment, he has now moved to an undisclosed location in the US.
At the same time, Meghan’s visit to Chicago appears to have been for a personal and meaningful occasion rather than a public engagement. According to reports, she attended the First Communion of her godson, the son of a close college friend.
Royal commentator Natalie Martinez shared details on social media, noting that the ceremony took place at Holy Name Cathedral on May 2. A photo from the event shows Meghan, 44, dressed in a refined beige turtleneck, smiling as children walked down the aisle during the service.
Coverage from People also confirmed the visit, highlighting that Meghan is the boy’s godmother and had travelled specifically for the occasion. She has since returned to her home in Montecito.
The brief solo trip offers a rare glimpse into Meghan’s private life, balancing personal commitments while her family navigates ongoing developments across the Atlantic.
