Meghan Markle and Harry are marking their eighth wedding anniversary amid renewed debate surrounding the impact their marriage has had on both their lives.
Speaking to GB News, royal expert Rafe Heydel-Mankoo claimed the relationship has brought far greater advantages to Meghan Markle than it has to the Duke of Sussex.
According to the commentator, “One party of the marriage has got a lot more out of it than the other one has.”
He argued that Meghan Markle has experienced major gains in terms of public profile, wealth and business opportunities since marrying Harry.
“The marriage has been a huge success for Meghan in terms of her profile, in terms of her business career, in terms of her wealth and her status,” he said.
However, the royal expert suggested the situation has been far less positive for Harry. He claimed the Duke has suffered a decline in public approval, while also losing much of his connection to both the monarchy and the British public.
“But I think for Harry, one must objectively say the marriage has been a disaster in terms of his standing, his approval ratings, his connection to the monarchy, his connection to the British people,” he added.
Heydel-Mankoo also suggested Harry’s decision to settle in the United States has left him without a clear role. He argued that the Duke’s previous experience as a royal, soldier and polo player has not easily translated into life in California.
The comments surfaced as Meghan Markle and Harry celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on Tuesday, May 19.
