Thomas Markle says he never expected to find happiness again later in life
Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, is reportedly ready to take a major step in his personal life at the age of 81.
According to reports, the former Hollywood lighting director has found love with Filipino nurse Rio Caneda, 46, after relocating to Cebu in the Philippines. Sources close to the Markle family claim Thomas is happier than he has been in years and is even considering marriage.
Speaking about his renewed happiness, Thomas shared that he never imagined he would find joy again at this stage of his life.
"I never expected to find joy and happiness again at my age. I felt neglected and sad for so many years, but now I am enjoying life again," he said.
"After so many tough times, I feel truly blessed to have found someone very special who takes such good care of me."
The couple reportedly met while Thomas was recovering at a rehabilitation hospital following an amputation procedure last December.
A family insider revealed that Thomas has openly expressed his desire to marry Rio, saying he would do so “in a heartbeat.” The source added that he is excited about the possibility of spending the rest of his life with her.
If the wedding goes ahead, it would mark Thomas Markle’s third marriage. He was previously married to Roslyn Loveless in 1964 and later to Doria Ragland in 1987, with whom he shares daughter Meghan Markle.
It remains unclear whether the couple would choose to marry in the United States or in the Philippines, where Thomas has said he enjoys living and has found a renewed sense of happiness.
