New Report Reveals Cost of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's Official Role

Taxpayer-funded expenses linked to former trade envoy duties come under fresh scrutiny

New details have emerged about the amount taxpayers reportedly spent while Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor carried out his duties as a UK trade envoy.

According to a report by the i Paper, the costs associated with his role exceeded £2 million, prompting renewed debate over transparency and royal spending.

Commenting on the figures, William Yarwood of the TaxPayers' Alliance said taxpayers would be shocked by the scale of the expenses.

He claimed that Andrew's trade envoy costs totaled more than £2 million and suggested the real amount could be even higher when additional travel expenses and inflation are considered.

Yarwood described the bill as "eye-watering" and argued that the figures demonstrate why transparency regarding taxpayer-funded royal duties should always be required.

The findings have also drawn criticism from anti-monarchy campaigners. Graham Smith, head of the campaign group Republic, called for full disclosure of royal expenses and an inquiry into the costs associated with royal engagements.

Smith argued that the figures suggest a disregard for public funds. He also claimed that the trade envoy position relied more on royal status than on delivering significant benefits for the UK.

According to Smith, the latest revelations may reinforce concerns among critics who believe members of the Royal Family have used such opportunities to enjoy extensive travel and privileges at taxpayers' expense.

The report has reignited discussion over how royal duties are funded and whether greater oversight of public spending connected to the monarchy is needed.
