Business move could add fresh pressure to ongoing taxpayer-funded protection debate
Meghan Markle’s latest partnership is drawing attention as Harry continues his legal battle over security arrangements in the UK, with some observers questioning how the two issues might overlap.
The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly teamed up with OneOff, an AI-driven platform that allows public figures to earn from outfits worn during appearances. According to reports from The Mirror, several featured looks are linked to the couple’s recent visit to Australia, with similar strategies expected for future trips.
The concern being raised is less about the partnership itself and more about timing. If Harry, the Duke of Sussex, succeeds in regaining taxpayer-funded security in Britain, critics may question whether official visits could also double as income-generating opportunities.
Royal journalist Stacy Schaverien pointed out the potential tension. She noted that if security funded by the public is reinstated, it could become controversial if Meghan uses those same trips, even those centred around charitable work, to promote outfits or earn revenue.
The broader issue, she suggested, is perception. If public funds are being used to support visits that also bring in private income, it could invite scrutiny over fairness and accountability.
