Meghan Markle could play a key role in shaping the future of Prince Harry's relationship with the Royal Family, according to royal commentators who believe a potential memoir may impact ongoing reconciliation efforts.
The Duchess of Sussex is expected to visit the UK next month alongside Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The trip has sparked renewed speculation about whether relations between Harry and King Charles could improve after years of tension.
However, royal editor Emily Andrews of Woman & Home believes a memoir from Meghan could create fresh challenges at a sensitive time.
“Harry is desperately trying to repair his relationship with his father, King Charles, and a new Meghan memoir could derail those efforts,” Andrews said.
She noted that Harry is reportedly keen to strengthen ties with his family and is pleased that Archie and Lilibet are able to maintain occasional contact with their grandfather through video calls and conversations.
“Harry wants to stabilise and improve relations with the Royal Family,” Andrews explained. “So Meghan knows a book would carry risks, but it could also give her considerable leverage.”
The royal expert suggested that any memoir may already be well underway and that the key question is when, rather than if, it will be published.
“You can bet your bottom dollar that much of her memoir has already been written,” Andrews said. “It's really just a matter of when she decides to release it.”
The comments come after a source told the Daily Mail that Meghan has been documenting her experiences for years.
According to the insider, the Duchess has kept extensive records, including voice notes, written journals and personal reflections, dating back to the period before she and Harry stepped down as senior working royals in 2020.
While there is no confirmation that a memoir is imminent, reports of such a project continue to fuel speculation about its potential impact on the Sussexes' relationship with the Royal Family.
