Prince Harry is approaching a pivotal moment in his relationship with the Royal Family as reports suggest he could return to the UK with Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Duke of Sussex is expected to visit Britain alongside his family for the first time in four years, raising fresh speculation about whether the trip could help mend long-standing tensions within the monarchy.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said the visit could provide an important opportunity for Harry to rebuild ties with King Charles, particularly as discussions surrounding the family's security arrangements continue.
“First of all, as far as we know, Harry’s security arrangements are still being discussed, unless he has already been informed of the outcome of his appeal,” Bond explained.
She also admitted she was surprised by reports that Meghan may be willing to return to the UK.
“I didn’t think Meghan would ever willingly set foot in Britain again,” Bond said. “But I’m sure she wants her children to know and understand their heritage, something Harry has spoken about publicly. We have to assume that some form of security reassurance has been provided for the family.”
Bond suggested that the prospect of King Charles spending time with his youngest grandchildren could play a significant role in easing family tensions.
“As Charles moves closer to 80, it must be an enormous sadness for him not to know his two youngest grandchildren,” she said. “If there is one thing that can soften hearts and help build bridges between divided relatives, it is young children.”
The royal commentator added that any missed opportunity for a reunion could have lasting consequences.
“If Harry, Meghan and the children do come to Britain and the King finds a reason not to meet them, it could be game over,” she said. “The family rift would likely become permanent.”
With relations between Harry and the Royal Family still strained, the proposed visit is being viewed as a potentially defining moment for both sides.
