Prince Harry has come under renewed scrutiny following his absence from this year's Trooping the Colour, with one royal commentator suggesting the Duke now has little role to play in the monarchy's future.
Writing for GB News, royal editor Svar Nanan-Sen argued that the streamlined monarchy envisioned by King Charles III was clearly on display during the annual celebration.
According to the commentator, the Buckingham Palace balcony line-up reflected the King's preference for a smaller working royal team. He noted that figures including Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Harry and Meghan Markle were absent from the public appearance.
The writer claimed that more than six years after Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties, the institution has adjusted to their departure and continues to operate without any obvious gap in its public-facing role.
He further suggested that while Harry may be content with the life he has built in California, there could still be sadness attached to missing an event that formed a major part of his life for decades.
