Charles Spencer reflects on a cherished family celebration while posting a rare photograph featuring Princess Diana.
Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, shared a nostalgic family photograph on social media just days after this year’s Trooping the Colour celebrations, prompting discussion among royal watchers.
Posting on Instagram, Spencer unveiled a rare family picture taken during their father’s 65th birthday celebration at Althorp House in May 1989. The image includes a seldom-seen photograph of Princess Diana alongside family members gathered for the special occasion.
Describing the photograph, Spencer wrote: “Large family group for my father’s 65th Birthday Party at @althorphouse in May 1989 - my step siblings William, Rupert and Charlotte at the back from left; and stepbrother Henry up front - with Raine wearing a boldly eye-catching floral dress.”
He added: “A wonderful evening, celebrating a wonderful man.”
The post attracted attention because it appeared shortly after the royal family gathered for Trooping the Colour, the annual celebration marking the official birthday of King Charles III.
The event took place on Saturday, June 13, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle once again absent from the celebrations. The couple have not been invited to the event in recent years following their decision to step back from royal duties in 2020.
Since leaving their working royal roles, Harry and Meghan have not appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the ceremony’s traditional finale. Although they attended Trooping the Colour in 2022 during Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II, they did not join other senior royals on the balcony.
Spencer’s latest post focused on family memories and a treasured moment from the past, offering followers a glimpse into the Spencer family's history through a rare image featuring his late sister.
