A royal columnist claims the Sussexes' reported visit could be unsettling for the Princess of Wales.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's reported plans to return to the UK have sparked fresh debate, with one royal commentator suggesting the visit could be particularly difficult for Kate Middleton.
Columnist Amanda Platell argued that the reported reunion between King Charles and the Sussexes may leave the Princess of Wales feeling hurt, given the long-running tensions between the two couples.
Writing about the reported visit, Platell said that when the King was said to have extended an "olive branch" by making time for Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet during their first family visit to Britain in four years, her thoughts immediately turned to Kate.
According to Platell, she is "less concerned by the psychodrama between father and son than about the Princess of Wales," arguing that the reported reconciliation could be emotionally challenging for the future Queen.
The columnist also questioned how Kate might feel seeing the Sussexes dominate headlines again after, in her view, Meghan had "done so much to discredit her" before reportedly returning to be welcomed by King Charles.
Platell further wrote that it would be understandable if Kate felt "slightly betrayed" by any highly publicized reunion, citing the years of public tension between the Sussexes and the Royal Family.
In her column, Platell contrasted Harry and Meghan's life in California with Kate's continued commitment to royal duties, describing the Princess of Wales as a loyal future Queen who helped shoulder additional responsibilities following the Sussexes' departure from royal life.
She concluded that news of a possible reunion between King Charles and the Sussexes could feel like "a blow to Kate," particularly as the Princess continues her gradual return to public engagements following her cancer treatment.
Neither Kensington Palace nor representatives for the Sussexes have commented on Platell's remarks or on reports surrounding the family's proposed UK visit.
