Prince Harry is reportedly hoping to repair his relationship with King Charles as questions continue over what his future within the royal fold might look like.
Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States, where they have since built a financially independent life. However, fresh reports suggest the Duke of Sussex may be looking to rebuild bridges with his father ahead of a possible visit to the UK next month.
Royal author Robert Jobson has claimed that Harry’s attempts at reconciliation may be tied, at least in part, to financial concerns. Speaking on The Royals Uncensored podcast, Jobson suggested that King Charles still “holds the purse strings” and may be in a position to offer support.
According to Jobson, Harry understands that the situation could be very different once Prince William becomes king.
“Harry knows that when his brother becomes King he’s going to get nothing,” Jobson said. “So therefore he’s now trying to make amends with his father, who holds the purse strings.”
The royal author added that time may be a key factor in Harry’s reported efforts to reconnect with the monarch.
“Ultimately, and I don’t want to be overly cynical about this, time is of the essence,” he said. “He needs to build bridges quickly if he wants his bank balance to be able to pay for his lifestyle.”
Harry and Meghan are expected to return to Britain with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Reports suggest the family could stay at a royal residence during the visit, although it has not been officially confirmed whether Harry will meet King Charles.
Royal experts have also suggested that a reconciliation between Harry and Prince William remains unlikely. Tensions between the brothers have been widely reported in recent years, and there is little indication that William is prepared to meet Harry during the trip.
Still, speculation continues that King Charles may make time to see his grandchildren despite his busy schedule.
