Royal expert says Duke of Sussex remains distant from senior members of the royal family
Prince Harry's strained relationship with the royal family has once again come under the spotlight following the recent wedding of his cousin, Peter Phillips, in England.
The Duke of Sussex was notably absent from the family celebration, prompting renewed discussion about his standing within royal circles. Royal commentator Jennie Bond suggested that his absence serves as another reminder of the ongoing tensions between Harry and his relatives.
Speaking to the Mirror, Bond said Harry's absence was a "graphic illustration" of how deep the divide has become. She recalled that when Harry travelled to the UK for the funeral of his uncle, Lord Fellowes, two years ago, reports indicated that he and his brother, Prince William, did not exchange a single word.
Bond noted that maintaining distance may be easier during a funeral, but a wedding presents a very different atmosphere. She said any unresolved tensions involving Harry, William and King Charles could have overshadowed what was intended to be a joyful occasion.
The royal expert also pointed out that it remains unclear whether Harry received an invitation to the wedding. She added that the Duke once shared a close bond with Peter Phillips and likely followed the celebrations from his home in California.
Bond suggested Harry may have privately sent his cousin wedding wishes or a gift, although any such gesture would likely remain out of the public eye.
Describing the event as an important moment for the family, Bond said the wedding provided an opportunity for royal relatives to come together and demonstrate unity despite recent challenges and negative headlines surrounding the monarchy.
