Prince Harry’s Friend Ben McBean Launches Fundraiser for Advanced Prosthetic Arm

Former Royal Marine hopes bionic technology will improve everyday life after losing two limbs in Afghanistan

Ben McBean, a former Royal Marine Commando who developed a friendship with Prince Harry following his military service, has launched a fundraising campaign to help secure an advanced prosthetic arm.

According to reports, the 39-year-old veteran suffered life-changing injuries after stepping on a land mine while serving in Afghanistan when he was 20 years old. The explosion resulted in the loss of his left arm and right leg, followed by ten months of rehabilitation at Headley Court Military Hospital in Surrey.

Prince Harry visited McBean during his recovery and has remained in contact with him over the years. Reflecting on their friendship, McBean said Harry had visited him on numerous occasions and had brought him beer and "get well soon" cards during difficult periods.

Through a GoFundMe campaign, McBean is now seeking support to travel abroad and test a bionic arm that could significantly improve his independence.

In his appeal, he explained that the advanced prosthetic could open up new possibilities in his daily life following the injuries he sustained in Afghanistan. He described the opportunity as a dream for both himself and his family.

McBean also highlighted how the technology could make everyday tasks easier, from opening a door while carrying a cup of tea to holding both of his children's hands at the same time.

The fundraiser, titled "Operation Strong Hand," aims to help the veteran explore a life-changing prosthetic solution that could enhance his mobility and quality of life.
