Growing concerns are said to be spreading within royal circles as Prince Andrew's ongoing scandal threatens to become a wider examination of the monarchy itself rather than the actions of a single individual.
According to a source who spoke to RadarOnline, senior palace figures are increasingly worried that public focus could move beyond Andrew and toward how the institution responded behind closed doors.
"What is really alarming senior royal figures now is the possibility that this story stops being seen purely as Andrew's personal scandal and starts becoming a much broader examination of how the monarchy itself responded behind the scenes," the insider claimed.
The source also suggested there are fears that future disclosures, whether from official records, former staff members or private communications, could create the impression that protecting the monarchy's reputation was given greater priority than addressing the seriousness of the allegations.
Particular concern is reportedly centred on the long-term impact such developments could have on Queen Elizabeth's legacy. The late monarch was widely regarded within palace circles as being deeply protective of Andrew over the years.
