Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken openly about his close relationship with King Charles, praising the British monarch's continued support for Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.
In a recent video interview with The Guardian, Zelenskyy reflected on his ties with the United Kingdom and revealed his hopes of welcoming the King to Ukraine in the future.
Expressing his admiration for the monarch, Zelenskyy said he would be delighted to host King Charles, although he acknowledged that security concerns could make such a visit difficult.
"Today I want to invite him very much," Zelenskyy said. "Of course, we want to see him in Ukraine very much. I don't know how it will be this year or whether it's possible, but we would be very happy to welcome him."
The Ukrainian leader also touched on the support he has received from the King throughout the war. However, when asked to provide further details about their conversations and the monarch's backing, he declined to elaborate.
"It's up to His Majesty to answer such questions," Zelenskyy responded.
The president went on to describe the strong bond he and his country share with King Charles, revealing that the monarch often comes up in conversations with his family.
Highlighting the respect they hold for the King, Zelenskyy recalled a recent phone call with his wife. He joked that, with all due respect to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, his wife first asked him to pass on her greetings to King Charles before mentioning the prime minister.
"We have a very good relationship," Zelenskyy said. "With all respect to Keir Starmer, my wife said best regards to His Majesty first, and then to the prime minister. Ukraine loves His Majesty."
His comments offer a glimpse into the warm relationship that has developed between the Ukrainian leader and the British monarch as the UK continues to support Ukraine during the conflict.
