Former royal aide recalls the simple meal Diana enjoyed during her quiet evenings at home
Princess Diana's favourite comfort food has been revealed by her former butler, who shared memories of the late royal's private routines and solitary evenings.
According to former royal butler Paul Burrell in his book A Royal Duty, Diana was particularly fond of a simple baked potato topped with caviar.
Burrell recalled that whenever Diana returned home after an outing, he would often prepare a cup of her favourite ginger root tea.
He wrote that her evening meals usually consisted of grilled trout, a pasta dish, or a plain baked potato served with a scoop of caviar and vinaigrette dressing.
The former aide also reflected on the quiet atmosphere that surrounded Diana during many evenings at home. Meals were often served on a wheeled trolley in the sitting room, where the princess would relax on a striped sofa in her white robe while watching television.
Burrell described those hours as some of the loneliest times of the day for Diana, noting that most of the household staff, including the chef and her dresser, had already left for the evening.
Wanting to keep her company, Burrell said he frequently spent time with the princess during those peaceful but often solitary moments.
