Elton John has reportedly been left frustrated with Prince Harry after the Duke approached him for financial support following their legal battle against a British newspaper publisher.
Royal commentator Paula Froelich claimed in her Substack that the musician delivered a blunt response after Harry allegedly asked him to contribute money.
According to the report, Elton told the Duke: “I am not an ATM.”
Elton was among several high-profile figures involved in legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited. The group, which also included Prince Harry, Elizabeth Hurley and Sadie Frost, accused the publisher of using unlawfully obtained private information in stories published over a number of years.
An insider claimed Elton was “furious” that Harry had approached him for money and suggested the Duke believed the singer had encouraged him to become involved in the case.
“Harry feels Elton brought him into this whole lawsuit,” the source alleged.
A separate insider claimed Harry also asked the musician to make a donation to the Invictus Games in Birmingham.
“Harry asked Elton to donate to Invictus Birmingham,” the source said, adding that Elton reportedly declined the request and that Harry was “very hurt” by the decision.
Speaking to Sky News after the court ruling, Froelich repeated the claim that Harry had sought financial support for the Games.
“I have been told that he has asked Elton to give him some money for his Invictus Games,” she said. “Elton has said no because this court case is such a big deal.”
Royal commentator Rob Shuter also weighed in on the reported disagreement, claiming the lawsuit had become a major focus for the Duke.
“This lawsuit became Harry’s obsession, and not everyone wanted to go down with the ship,” Shuter said. “Elton supported him, but support has limits.”
