Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been criticised over their handling of their latest reported visit to the UK, with some royal insiders accusing the couple of creating unnecessary confusion and tension.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were initially said to be planning a family reunion in Britain. Later reports suggested Harry would travel without Meghan and their children, before the family allegedly arranged a private meeting with King Charles at Highgrove.
The changing reports surrounding the trip have reportedly frustrated some senior members of the royal family.
Speaking to Heat magazine, a source claimed that the King had taken a significant personal risk by agreeing to accommodate Harry and his family.
“Everyone knows the King put his reputation on the line to accommodate Harry’s family, so this last-minute flip-flopping is bewildering and infuriating,” the insider said.
According to the source, the uncertainty surrounding the visit only increased tensions behind palace walls.
“It only served to further antagonise senior figures, who say Meghan and Harry are self-obsessed drama mongers who are incapable of doing anything without causing stress,” the source claimed.
The insider also alleged that Prince William was particularly upset by the situation and believed his brother and sister-in-law were being insensitive toward the King.
“Prince William, in particular, is furious at what Harry and Meghan are putting the family through,” the source said. “He feels they’re toying with the King’s emotions while he’s battling cancer. It’s cruel as far as William is concerned.”
