King Charles Rides 150-Year-Old Horse Tramway During Isle of Man Visit

King Charles celebrated one of the Isle of Man’s best-known traditions during his latest royal engagement.

The monarch visited the historic Douglas Bay Horse Tramway on Tuesday as the popular attraction marks its 150th anniversary.

A video shared on the British royal family’s official Instagram account showed the King enjoying a ride on the iconic horse-drawn tramway.

“Today The King visited the iconic Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year,” the palace wrote.

“His Majesty took a ride on the oldest horse-drawn passenger tramway still operating during a day of engagements on the Isle of Man,” the statement added.

The royal family also shared an interesting fact about King Charles’ title on the island.

“Did you know that The King goes by the title ‘Lord of Mann’ when he’s on the Isle of Man? The ancient title is held by him as the island’s Head of State,” the palace explained.

The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway has carried passengers along Douglas promenade since 1876. It remains one of the island’s most recognisable attractions and an important part of its heritage.
