Prince Harry has returned to Britain without his wife, Meghan Markle, or their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, prompting fresh discussion about the young royals’ limited connection with their British family.
TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp has warned that Archie and Lilibet could one day resent missing out on their British heritage and relationships with their royal relatives.
Allsopp, whose late father, Lord Hindlip, was a friend of Princess Diana, suggested that the children may eventually question why they had so few opportunities to spend time in the UK or build relationships with their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
“In about 12 years’ time, these children will rebel,” she claimed. “They will come to the UK, meet their cousins and other family, and bitterly resent their British life being taken from them.”
Archie and Lilibet, who live in California with their parents, are believed not to have visited Britain since June 2022, when the family attended celebrations marking the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. Lilibet is also thought to have met her grandfather, King Charles, only once.
The comments come amid reports that Meghan has no intention of reuniting with Prince Harry’s family. Royal commentator Rob Shuter claimed in his Naughty But Nice Substack that the Duchess of Sussex was upset following the reported last-minute withdrawal of an offer involving a royal residence.
Harry had reportedly been considering bringing Archie and Lilibet to Britain for what would have been their first visit in four years. However, his spokesperson later confirmed that the children would not be travelling to London.
Reports suggest that security arrangements remained a major concern, with no agreement reached with the UK government. As a result, another possible opportunity for Archie and Lilibet to reconnect with their British relatives appears to have been missed.
